Mairi Sutherland, Producer, Writer, Director, Actress

Mairi Sutherland has over fifteen years’ experience in programme production, working firstly as a freelance radio reporter for 5 years with BBC Scotland. She developed a successful career as a documentary features writer, presenter, interviewer and editor for radio programmes broadcast on BBC Scotland and Radio 5. Then she moved onto working for BBC Scotland Television as a researcher on the national BBC network programme First Light. In 1995, Due to changes in local radio staffing, she joined the independent film sector, where she gained first-hand experience working with Clan Wallace the fighting extras; technical assistance and inspiration for the Oscar-winning film Braveheart. While with ‘The Clan’ she worked on the making of The Bruce starring Oliver Reed, giving her a valuable insight into the practicalities of filming on location.

In March 1996 she joined Palm Tree Productions to work on publicity and marketing becoming a shareholder and co-owner. Soon she went on to co-produce and co-own more than 18 of Palm Tree Entertainments 21 films over the space of a decade in film production working with Producer partner Robbie Moffat.

Mairi now has an impressive 21 'behind the scenes' production credits as Producer, Co-Producer, Executive Producer, Writer and Director as seen in her credits on IMDB, the Hollywood Movie database site. In the trilogy Celtic Warrior, she made a brief departure into the front of the camera with her acting role, 3 picture role as Beith de Pict.  including  a guest appearance in Finding Fortune and Red Rose.  She re praised her acting in 2016 to 2018 with roles for The Scottish Screen Academy, the RSMD and the Screen Writers Workshop.

Included in her  writing credits are 3 screenplays plus 2 films as Director. She wrote Red Rose, about the life of the poet Robert Burns, which gained several awards at Film Festivals and went on to be translated into 12 different languages across Europe by HBO. After this, she wrote and directed Photoshoot a film about paparazzi stalking an ageing actress, which gained a Best Actress award for the lead actor, Debbie Arnold. Her next screenplay, which she also directed called 'Going Green' is a film about a family who finds their house is repossessed it is available on Amazon Prime. During her producing career, she was also offered a lecturing post at Strathclyde University Centre for Life Long Learning teaching the life of Robert Burns based on her screenplay and the completed film about him called Red Rose. At the moment she is in production with the Palm Tree Universal Documentary  Walking With Elephants directed by Robbie Moffat. She is  also currently in post production editing on a documentary about her grandfather's life in Passchendaele, World War One called Private John Smith for 2018 Armistice.
